FIELD IN BLOOM
Field in Bloom was installed in a commuter concourse linking Newark’s Penn Station and the Gateway Building, a busy walking passage that sees thousands of commuters each day. I used collected, discarded mattress fabric as a way to slow viewers and transform their experience of the space. Perhaps as a monument to city-dwellers and their long forgotten cast-offs, the work played with the idea of intimacy, privacy, and universal longing within a most publicly-facing space.
This piece was created in winter 2015 as one feature in a larger exhibition of public works titled You Are Here Now, organized and curated by Rebecca Jampol and Jasmine Wahi of The Gateway Project in Newark, NJ.
